E-Bike Crash, Assault Reports and Vehicle Thefts Feature in Busy Week for Dee Why Police

Police, paramedics and firefighters responded to a wide range of incidents across Dee Why between Saturday, 23 May and Friday, 29 May, including an e-bike crash involving teenagers, multiple assault reports, vehicle thefts and emergency callouts to apartment buildings.



Fire and Rescue NSW Dee Why Station was first called to Pacific Parade just before 5.15pm on Saturday, 23 May, after reports of water leaking from an apartment. Firefighters gained entry to the unit and discovered a failed hot water system. Crews disconnected the system, assisted with water removal and contacted the owners.

Later that evening, shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday, 23 May, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance responded to an e-bike crash at Howard Avenue near Pittwater Road.

Authorities were told the e-bike had been carrying around four teenagers when it slid on a wet footpath while turning the corner from Pittwater Road.

A 14-year-old girl fell from the bike and struck her head on the pavement. Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command who were patrolling nearby stopped to provide first aid before paramedics arrived.

The teenager was treated for a laceration to the back of her head and transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick in a stable condition. It is understood she was not wearing a helmet.

Police later received reports of a vehicle stolen from Burne Avenue just after 1.30pm on Sunday, 24 May.

A series of assault-related incidents followed on Monday, 25 May. Police were called to Pittwater Road just after 8am following reports of an assault, before being called back to the same road just before 6pm after reports of youths fighting.

Just after 6.15pm on Monday, 25 May, officers also responded to reports of a person allegedly assaulted during a road rage incident on Pacific Parade.

Further theft reports were made just after 3.45am on Tuesday, 26 May, after property was allegedly stolen from a vehicle parked on Redman Road.

Later that afternoon, around 4.30pm on Tuesday, 26 May, a dispute between shoppers inside the Woolworths supermarket at Howard Avenue escalated, prompting staff to call police.

Authorities allege that while those involved were on their way to Dee Why Police Station to provide statements, a group of teenagers approached and allegedly assaulted a 57-year-old man.

Police were again called to Howard Avenue shortly before 3.30pm on Wednesday, 27 May, following another reported assault.

Traffic crews also responded to a motor vehicle collision at Pacific Parade just after 12.45pm on Thursday, 28 May.

A further assault report was made at Howard Avenue just before 5pm on Thursday, 28 May.

Later that evening, just after 7.30pm on Thursday, 28 May, an NSW Ambulance crew transporting another patient was flagged down by a member of the public for a woman in her 30s who had fallen and hit her head near Pittwater Road and Hawkesbury Avenue.

The ambulance crew called for another unit to attend, however the woman’s husband later drove her to Northern Beaches Hospital before paramedics arrived.

Police also received reports of another vehicle stolen from Howard Avenue just before 7pm on Friday, 29 May.



The incidents form part of a broader snapshot of recent police and emergency service activity across Dee Why.
